Four sisters killed in roof collapse

PESHAWAR: At least four girls, all sisters, were killed and 13 others sustained injuries in roof collapse incidents caused by heavy rains here on Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred in Amin Colony near Landi Arbab, where the roof of the house of Inayatullah caved in due to heavy downpour at around 1:30 am. Four girls were killed in the incident. The deceased were identified as Aalia, 3, Faiza, 10, Samia, 12 and Gul Huba, 16.
Three other family members were also injured. The head of the family is a poor labourer working at a Tandoor. “We heard a loud sound in the midnight and when rushed out, I saw the roof of the neighbouring room collapsed due to the rainstorm,” Inayat told journalists.
The wife and the lone son of the labourer were not in the house at the time of the incident.
Compensation for lightning, flood victims

PESHAWAR: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Saturday while expressing his heartfelt sorrow and grief over the loss of precious lives by lightning and heavy rains in the Upper Dir district announced compensation for the affected people.
Durrani announced financial assistance amounting to Rs 100,000 for each dead, Rs 50,000 for each critically injured and Rs 25,000 for each with minor injuries.
The chief minister asked the local administration and relief teams to leave no stone unturned in providing relief for the affected people. He expressed sympathies with the victims and prayed for the departed souls.
Meanwhile, conflicting reports are being received here about the exact number of casualties in Banria Khaur area of the Upper Dir.
